AlgeBlocks®

The use of algebraic blocks as a manipulative resource in algebra courses offers students a concrete and visual experience for discovering and understanding the fundamental principles of this discipline. This material consists of blocks representing variables such as x, y, x2, y2, xy, z, and z2 and their respective opposites, allowing algebraic operations to be modeled in a tangible way. Through their implementation, students can explore key concepts such as operations with integers, combining like terms, operations with polynomials, solving equations and inequalities, systems of equations, and factorization, among other skills. This concrete approach facilitates the transition from arithmetic to algebraic thinking, promoting a deep understanding that progresses from intermediate to higher levels. For teachers, algebraic blocks are a powerful tool for fostering mathematical reasoning, active learning, and meaningful knowledge construction.

ColorFrac®

PoliTabla® and ColorFrac® manipulatives have been designed to enhance active learning and deep understanding of key concepts in algebra and fractions. Both resources allow students to explore mathematics in a tangible, visual, and meaningful way, facilitating the transition from concrete to abstract thinking.

PoliTabla® is an educational manipulative focused on developing algebraic thinking. Its structure consists of a rectangle whose edges have three different lengths on both axes: the shortest represents the unit (1), the middle one represents the variable x, and the longest represents the variable y. This arrangement allows algebraic products to be constructed and visualized in a concrete way. The set includes ten liguillas: six light blue ones to express positive values and four black ones to represent negative values. Through its use, students can model operations such as the multiplication of binomials and polynomials, factorization, and forms of division. In addition, its compatibility with Algeblocks® algebraic blocks allows it to be integrated into broader teaching sequences, covering intermediate to advanced levels.

For its part, ColorFrac® supports the teaching of fractions by using primary colors and their combinations to represent fractional relationships in a clear and concrete way. This manipulative allows students to explore unit fractions, equivalent fractions, mixed and improper numbers, as well as model fundamental operations such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions. Its visual and manipulative approach helps overcome common barriers in learning fractions, making the concepts more accessible and understandable for all students.
